O titule:
DAJAMA, as part of its Cultural Heritage of Slovakia series, publishes monographs about cultural beauties of Slovakia. The most recent addition, Museums of Nationwide Extent, freely follows from the previous monograph on Slovakia’s open-air museums.
Slovakia has a wealth of historic natural and social artefacts, and a corresponding number of sites where they can be seen. A number of museums across the country have been founded in different periods. They document significant locations and events, and introduce some of the leaders who shaped the history of Slovakia.
This bibliographic project aims to offer a monograph that introduces the major museums with nationwide remit along with their expositions in individual regions of Slovakia. The publication can also serve as a visitor guide offering a comprehensive overview of concrete museums prior to their visit. Each section opens with a brief introduction to each museum and its foundations, continues with a tour of its expositions with an abundance of information about individual artefacts. Contemporary photographs of objects and expositions complement the story.
The monograph introduces nearly fifty museums with nationwide activities that operate under the auspices of state institutions. The Slovak National Museum is the major and the oldest cultural heritage institution in terms of continuity of its operation. It is only natural that the chapter dedicated to it is the most extensive. The second chapter presents the Slovak Museum of Technology, the largest of the kind in Slovakia, and offers insights into the history of science and technology. The third chapter introduces nationwide specialised museums listed geographically from Slovakia’s West to the East. The conclusion offers a brief overview of all museums along with their contacts and URLs.
We trust that the publication gives you plenty of interesting information about the protection of the priceless fund held in the museums. We also hope that the publicity helps raise an awareness of the social role and significance of museums.
